Weeee.. finally finished the colour version! Hopefully I've not ruined what was one of my best pencil sketches by slapping paint on it. (Pencil version seen here: [link]). I decided to be masochistic and ink the outlines in red ink with a 4/0 watercolour brush (the smallest one you can buy) and the rest is mostly watercolour with the odd bit of black ink where needed.
Kana's people put a lot of spiritual importance in the medium of Dance, it is how many of their legends are taught to their young, and is one of the ways their warriors are trained. Props, including swords, ribbons, sleeves and other such artistic devices are often used. Kana, being their leader does not dance in public often, only on state ceremonies and special occasions, but he believes in leading by example so is a master dancer and very handy with a sword.
Lots of inspiration on this one, not least the stock artist whose pose made my little arty eyes light up and go WOW i have to use that: and the original stock image: [link]
Costuming inspired by all kinds of asian cultures and historical artifacts, mostly seen in books i own.
This is so beautiful! I love watercolour, but I don't have the time (and lack the motivation XD) to practise doing them. This is truly a wonderful piece.
