Finally managed to colour this image.. going for a slightly different feel with this image, more of a flat, almost cell-shaded style. Not sure if I prefer this to the inked version... at the moment I think I like the black and white version: [link] but I suspect this might be a grower. The text that goes with it can be found at that version too.
Done in watercolours over the original inked version, done with the help of the wonderful ~syccas-stock and this stock image: [link]

Oh, this is a grower, all right. Your use of pattern is exceptional. And you know the very first thing I thought of? Japanese armour. (I have no doubt you'll get the general reference).
I really hope you'll experiment more with this style. You have a strong feel for it, and it truly results in a striking and complex composition.
I do get what you're saying about the patterning, but I kind of like it... or at least it's growing on me. The whole idea was to surround th main focus twith patterning so they stood out as a point of simplicity. It might backfire I suppose, but I kind of like it for the fact it makes me look harder at the image.
Thanks Jade... not sure if it's me.. though I do like the way the flattened colours work.. perhaps I was a little ambitious for this first time round, but it's certainly something I'd like to try again.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
