This is strictly speaking a WIP, but I'm engaged in a piece for the Share One Planet project, so it's unlikely I'll ever get round to noodling with the subtleties of this piece. So lo, behold the demony bird chick who... lures and eats fairies? Make your own stories people, this was just practice - trying my hand at James Guerney's light and colour technique of masking off a colour wheel to control my colour palette. Quite a successful attempt, I'd say, since I actually really like how the colours in this turned out.

If the hand looks a little odd, it's the only thing I had ref for, and was too lazy to shoot my own, so fudged it with a ref I found here on dA. (Link to come if I can remember where I found it).

It's wonderful. You used so deep colours and the glance is so mysterious. The character seems to come from another world where dreams can become true but in the same time, where dreams can become too much dark and fearful too, like the worst nightmare. It's a strange but wonderful and breathtaking combination between darkness and fairytale :clap:

This is absolutely bautiful, i have not worked with color in a long time. I am inspired to pick it up again!

EAting the fairies, or lureing them in to do her bidding and send to us dreams....?

Hah, first thing I thought when I saw this was on thienbao's images. I love the skin color and the contrast between it and the red feathers. Can't wait to see it finished!

Amazing work :D I've read the James Gurney book too I found the part on gamut maps really helpful. I'm entering a piece in share one planet too I can't wait to see what you produce Amelia xxx
