A copy after Rembrandt's Jeremiah Lamenting the Destruction of Jerusalem, this was done as part of the OFD Workshop in the anatomy forums over on CGTalk. This is the original painting: [link]

It proved to be a huge learning experience not only in the techniques of Rembrandt, but in creating textures in photoshop with something other than a normal round brush and the subtleties of light, dark and edges. It was a very worthwhile exercise, and I've already put techniques learned to good practice in other pieces, I would highly recommend it. If you want to improve on your anatomy or figure drawing in general, as well as partake in workshops like this, you must come and join in the Anatomy forums over on CGTalk! You'll find them here: [link]
And as some people seem to have this daft notion that CGTalk is only for super amazing digital artists, the anatomy forums accept work in all mediums and of all levels of talent. If you've noticed an improvement in my work over the past year, a lot of it is due to the amazing support and community in those forums. I can't recommend them enough.

This was all done in Photoshop CS2, exclusively with the default chalk texture brush at varying sizes, without pressure.

So I'm confused...did you start this again from scratch or did you just manipulate the orginal?...cause...damn man thats hella awsome.

That is absolutely incredible. I can't even imagine the amount of work that must have taken. Rembrandt would be impressed!

wow that's just amazing. I can't believe it's a copy! And you said this was with the square rough brushes mainly? Did you use any filters at all or was this all just consecutive brushwork in PS? I'm still amazed that anything painterly comes out of the program since mostly we see the smooth pristine work. It gets me all excited to think that PS can do something THIS painterly! :hump:

I'll definitely have to visit their forums more. They were so friendly and helpful there and I have lots of life drawing sketches I could share^^ I'd love to try copying some of Klimt's work that had the mix of modeling and flat planes. That style has always fascinated me.
