I totally blame *windfalcon and her gorgeous gryphon artworks for this. Was inspired by this ([link]) wallpaper photo of a cheetah while hunting for a cool animal combination for a gryphon, so thought I'd use that layout, and swiped a little of it's background for this as the colours are just gorgeous.
A secretary bird and cheetah combo, I had to give her a name when she was done, cause she just looked like fun. Named for the shape she'd undoubtedly make while swooping in on prey. Picked this combo as my other half is South African and it's an awesome reminder of the time I spent in his country of birth this christmas gone by.
Photoshop and a cintiq, somewhere around 4 hours of work I think. Use download button for a 1900 x 1200 size version.
Like what ~SkarmoryThePG said, the ears don't seem to fit. I think if you want to give her ears, probably make them long and pointy like the crest feathers. I know the back half's a cheater but she'll probably look better if the ears are pointy rather than round. Everything else I like very much, particularly the cheater marking along her eye.
You know, I was never fond of the ears either, but wasn't sure if she'd technically still be a gryphon without them? I should probably have left them out
This might be HoMM3 speaking but I never really saw my gryphons with ears. They just seem... somewhat out of place on an otherwise avian head, you know?
