Done for Conceptart's Character of the Week 105 - Amaterasu, the Japanese Goddess of the Sun. Wikipedia info: [link]

The moment where Amaterasu takes a peek from outside her self imposed prison of a cave to stare at her own reflection, believing it to be another sun goddess.

Used this stock pic: [link] from :iconladydove7-stock: as a starter for the image.

Photoshop, in the region of about 8-10 hours.

Man, this is great. I love her expression- "Is that really my nose?"
Sun goddess? Like Okami? Have you played Okami?

Lovely idea with the parasol as imagery of a sun. <3

I'm not that bad. I just type that way.
I love it! If I had the wall space I would beg you to enable the print option. But as things stand I will have to wait a little longer

Art is
whoa she is beautiful!
As if I didn't know that you were the zephyri I recently complimented on this exact piece over on CA, when I saw this on my watchlist I actually squealed a little bit lol :XD: Needless to say, I love the finished piece; that headdress is just WOW and her dress is gorgeous and she has such a pretty face! I'm very much pleased you uploaded this to your DA so I can fave the heck out of it! :D
I love this old myth--and how they tricked her into realizing she was beautiful. You've captured her beauty very well, I think--I love her look of stunned unsettlement. Good colors, too.

No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between his shoulderblades will seriously cramp his style.

Lovely depiction, Sam. Years ago I did a very clumsy drwing about Amaterasu and Usume (the shamaness that plots how to bring her out) and I've always wanted to recreate it again, when my skills are good enough. You did such a beautiful work, she looks so inocent and surprised, and the umbrella as the sun is a wonderful idea.
